Find Healing with

Lasting Wellness Counselling Services

Your source for healing and transformation

Are you feeling overwhelmed and overstressed?

"The wound is the place where the light enters you" - Rumi

Does your life look great from the outside and yet you are struggling to find inner peace and meaning? Do you feel stuck or feel like you are experiencing overwhelm from a history of losses or difficult, traumatic events? Do you suffer from complex PTSD or PTSD, depression, anxiety, and/or addictions including problematic eating patterns as a result?

With over 20 years in community teaching and therapy experience, I am able to help online throughout Ontario on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and in person in Guelph, Ontario on Mondays. Healing, transformation, and lasting wellness are possible when you reach out to me for support. In session, you will be listened to, validated, and empowered to learn to use evidence-based strategies that will help you to achieve peace and a sense of purpose.

Therapy can give you a sense of security in the present moment, using techniques for grounding and being fully present that you can learn to apply when you need them most, and also on a regular basis.  From this new sense of security you may want to explore underlying wounds and traumas in order to gain acceptance of realities that cannot be changed and a new, less triggered perspective on past events.  You then can be unburdened from the past and more easily learn new skills to cope with with present and future situations with a sense of energy and freedom from no longer useful habits and patterns.  You will be fully supported to make the small, steady lifestyle and relationship changes you want to make, and you can gain confidence in your ablity to meet challenges assuredly and develop increased resilience.

You are welcome at my practice regardless of your race, culture, gender, sexual preferences, and/or disabilities/abilities. I strive to honour difference and celebrate everyone's unique qualities.

  • provides a framework for developing desirable solutions.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy focuses on changing thoughts and behaviours and for better outcomes.

EMDR

  • Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma and many other mental health problems
  • may allow you to feel less affected by past trauma and gain a new sense of perspective on the past, present, and future

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Inspired Therapy

  • IFS believes that we bring many different parts of ourselves to face varied challenges
  • supports you to develop a new, healthier, relationship between your authentic, core Self and your often traumatized, younger parts where your Self is in the lead more often

Body Based (Somatic) Therapies

  • we contain trauma within our bodies through spending too much time in the fight or flight and/or freeze response with symptoms such as anxiety and panic attacks
  • over time we can go into a collapse state which may be characterized by fatigue and depression
  • body based therapies like breathing practices, yoga, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Havening, self-acupressure, qigong, and other somatic therapies are some of the most effective ways to heal trauma and create lasting wellness.

Meditation and Mindfulness

  • guided meditation allows you to go into a theta brainwave state of accelerated healing
  • meditations can be personalized and recorded so you can practice them at home
  • some prefer mindfulness which involves paying attention to the present moment without judgement often with a focus on the breath
  • only 8-12 weeks of a consistent 10 minute daily meditation or mindfulness practice has been shown to decrease symptoms of depression, anxiety, and PTSD

Self-Compassion

  • the three main components of self-compassion are mindfulness of what is going on moment to moment, kindness to self, and recognition of common humanity
  • learning to be kind to yourself, and practicing self-compassion, as you would treat a cherished friend has been shown to significantly improve  therapeutic results
